We have been asked to review the Nilaqua Towel-Off Pet Shampoo. The amazing thing about this shampoo is that it does not require water! It comes in 2 fragrances, Mulberry and Peppermint & Tea Tree. Both smell amazing! The Peppermint & Tea Tree boasts the added benefit of a careful blend of essential oils which naturally repel Fleas, Ticks and Flies.
Rodney and Mabel both visit the groomers every 6 weeks so I do my best not to bath them too much in between so as not to affect the natural oils in their coats, however sometimes it is unavoidable as we enjoy lots of woodland walks and they do tend to get a bit sweaty and stinky in between.
I decided to try this shampoo out on Mabel. It has been 3 weeks since her last groom and after getting wet in the rain a couple of times and drying off naturally she was more than ready for a freshen up. I was very intrigued as to how this shampoo would work as my natural reaction is to want to wash the dirt away with water first before applying the shampoo, however that is not necessary with this shampoo.
As I did not know how messy the procedure would be I still chose to stand Mabel in the bath. I then applied the shampoo by squeezing the bottle, it poured out quite easily and I started to massage it into her fur. She is currently quite fluffy, so I did need to apply it quite generously. It lathered up well and was quite soapy in appearance but as I continued to massage her fur this disappeared and left her looking wet. I then thoroughly towel dried her until she was just slightly damp. This is when I released her from the bathroom and she did her usual crazy zoom around the house trying to dry herself on any soft furnishings she can find. Once she had calmed down, she was pretty much dry and was definitely smelling fresher and her coat felt soft and clean to touch.
This Waterless Shampoo definitely makes the process of bathtime much quicker, as no rinsing is required, meaning no chasing the dog around the bath tub with the shower and no crazy shaking, soaking the whole bathroom. Also because water is not used the coat seems to dry naturally quite quickly, meaning much less time taken trying to dry them with a hair dryer. This would definitely be handy to take on holidays where bathing a dog is not easy, such as in a caravan or on a boat.
I’m not sure how I’d feel about using it if they had rolled in Fox poo as I feel I would definitely want to wash the poo away before shampooing the area however for in between bathtimes as a freshen up or if you don’t have access to a bath it definitely provides a no-fuss bath in a bottle.
