We have been asked to review the Pawfect Himalayan Chew Bars. These are a long lasting dental chew made from the milk of Yaks and/or Cows who graze freely and happily in chemical-free pastures of the Himalayas. Once turned into cheese and formed into bars they are smoked and sun dried for 35 days, creating these super hard, 100% natural chews.
The bars are made into 4 different sizes, small, medium, large and extra large. We have been sent the medium and large bars. The medium pack contains 2 bars which weigh 65g each and the large pack contains 1 bar which weighs 140g. Rodney and Mabel are quite small Cavapoos, at around 5.5kg, so I decided to try them on the medium bars first. The opening of the packet caused great excitement and they were both very eager to take a bar each.
The medium bars are roughly 12cm long and have a slightly uneven shape with a rough surface down either side, which seems perfect for cleaning a dog’s teeth whilst they chew. Rodney and Mabel after lots of initial sniffing settled quite quickly to chomp away at their bar. The bars are non-staining so it was good that I did not need to worry that they chose to settle on the rug. I was also pleased to see that they are 100% grain free, as Rodney has allergies so this meant they were perfect for him too.
Rodney and Mabel both tried all different ways to chew the end of the bar, brilliant for cleaning all areas of their teeth. After a fairly long chewing session you could see that the end of the bar had been chewed but the length of the bar was still the same so clearly these will be very long lasting chews. The packet the chew bars came in is resealable so I placed them back inside to keep them fresh and exciting for another chew session another day and many more days to come.
When your dog has only a small end piece left you are then able to place it in the microwave so that they puff up into a larger piece which is easier to crunch through, preventing the risk of choking and meaning you don’t have to throw the last piece away.
With so many different dental chews on the market I have found it very difficult to find one that is healthy, long-lasting, grain-free, non-staining, odour free and obviously very tasty but I think it’s safe to say that the Pawfect Himalayan Chew Bars definitely tick all the boxes. It’s a thumbs up from us.
